New Doors Opening

Sometimes we know when new doors are about to open. A few subtle signs seem to arrive in advance, almost as if to usher in a new possibility. And sometimes there is a sense of momentum building, as though something new is beginning to take shape.
Sometimes those possibilities take us beyond what feels comfortable. We find ourselves being stretched a little, wondering whether we are really ready for what is appearing.
On Saturday, exactly two years since finding our home in the High Weald area of Sussex, I had a call out of the blue.
Earlier this year, I became a member of Flowers from the Farm as a dream of growing British flowers slowly began to take form.
The call was from a lovely lady wanting to send a bouquet to a special friend who was feeling unwell.
I have enjoyed arranging flowers for most of my life, sharing them with friends and family and, more recently, helping to create flowers for a few small weddings. But somehow this felt entirely different.
This would be my first paid-for bouquet, made with flowers I had grown myself.
Suddenly, I felt nervous.
Would I get it right?
As I am sure you can appreciate, this has been a difficult year for flower growing. I have worked hard, praying that seeds would turn into seedlings and putting so much effort into keeping plants and flowers alive through the blistering heat. More than once, I have found myself wondering, am I really cut out for this?
Perhaps that is why what I finally have to show for all that investment feels precious.
And then someone found my little flower farm and trusted me to create something that might bring a little joy to her friend.
She was delighted with the result.
I was so nervous on the day of delivery. My flushed, rosy cheeks reminded me that sunshine and warmth are accompanying us well into October. After such a challenging growing season, we finally have colour in our gardens once again.
Stepping out of our comfort zone can be a necessary part of growth.
Sometimes it makes us feel anxious, even if only for a short while, until we learn to feel more comfortable in that new space we have created.
And for you … I wonder what new doors are opening? Are there signs appearing?
Thank you to those who responded to my post last week about offering in-person workshops once again. It’s great to receive your feedback.
