What Can The Land Reveal?
I've long been fascinated by the idea that the places we inhabit may hold far more information than we realise.
Those of you familiar with my work will know that dowsing has been part of my own journey for many years, particularly in exploring the subtle energies of people and place.
So when my friend and fellow dowser Maureen Calamia told me about something she is doing next week, I thought some of you might find it interesting too.
Maureen is a geomancer and Earth wisdom teacher. Geomancy is a way of exploring and understanding the subtle relationship between people, place and the land.
On 8 September, Maureen will be taking us, virtually, to a centuries-old retreat space called Le Mas Méjean in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in the south of France.
Before the event, Maureen will dowse the land remotely from a survey of the property and create a geomancy map of what she discovers.
She'll then meet live with Agathe Lazaro, steward of Le Mas Méjean retreat, to explore her findings and consider how they might relate to the history of the land and its present-day purpose as a place for healing and transformation.
What particularly interests me is that this isn't simply an opportunity to learn about geomancy.
We'll be able to witness something of the process itself: how information gathered through dowsing can become the beginning of a conversation with a place and with the people who care for it.
Perhaps places, like people, have stories waiting to be heard. And perhaps part of our relationship with the land is learning how to listen.
